Thomas (d. 1734) GIBSON

  • Born: Abt 1691
  • Marriage: Unknown
  • Died: Bef 7 Nov 1734, Hanover County, VA

Another name for Thomas was Thomas GIBSON.

Noted events in his life were:

• Religion: processioning orders, 1715, St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, VA. The lands of (people including) THOS. GIBSON being made one precinct... we have peaceably processioned (names landowners or those acting for them): LEWIS DUKE HUMPHREY for THOS. GIBSON...

[The Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co: , p. 16 of original record, p. 251 of printed transcript, shows in an undated entry which follows an entry dated 4 Feb 1715/16
http://homepage.mac.com/wkfisher1/Genealogical_Glean/Gibson.html]

NOTE: Processioning of land was a community undertaking required by law. Landowners were grouped into precincts; those in each precinct got together by appointment to walk their property lines, recutting fading blazes and marking new trees by mutual agreement to replace any that had fallen. Vestry book entries dated 1711, 1715, and 1715 suggest that this reestablishment of property lines took place at four year intervals. In 1715 Thomas Gibson did not come, but sent Humphrey to procession in his stead. Humphrey was Thomas' son in law, the husband of the daughter named in his will, Frances Humphrey.

• Timeline: Hanover County, VA formed from New Kent County, 1720, Hanover County, VA.

  Marriage Notes:

There's a big gap (25 years) between the marriage date and first child. Perhaps there is another Thomas Gibson in between??
