ANOTHER AGED RESIDENT GONE One by one the aged residents and pioneers of Delaware county are called away from earth, and the scenes in which they have taken an active part during the many years of life that have been allotted to them. This morning at 4 o'clock Mrs. Susan Gibson, who for more than fifty-one years has been a resident of Delaware county, died at the home of her son, Mr. Neps Ross, after an illness of about ten weeks duration. Mrs. Gibson, whose maiden name was Peyton, was born Sept. 22, 1795, and was therefore in the 90th year of her age. She was married on the 2d day of July 1813, to William Ross by whom she had four children. Three of them, Neps, Perry and John, are still living. Mr Ross died about the year 1839 and Mrs. Ross remained a widow until December, 1847, when she was married to Mr. Borter Gibson, father of Thomas Gibson, with whom she lived until his death, which occurred about eighteen years ago. For the last fourteen years Grandmother Gibson his[sic] lived with her son Mr. Neps Ross, who has done everything in his power to make her declining years peaceful and happy. She lived to see four generations of her posterity, there being three of her great-great grandchildren now living.
At the age of 17 years she united with the M. E. church, of which organization she has ever since been a consistent member.
On the 22d of September last, the day she was 89 years old, she was taken sick and gradually although slowly, grew worse until about two weeks ago when her sickness began to assume a more serious aspect and her friends began to realize that her end was near at hand. Surrounded by mourning relatives and friends at ten minutes before four o'clock this morning her spirit was set at liberty and all that remained on earth of Grandmother Gibson was the frail body that for ninety years had endured the storms and enjoyed the sunshine incident to a busy and useful life.
The funeral will take place tomorrow at Bethel church in Monroe township, at 1 o'clock p.m., and the remains will be interred at the Rees graveyard. The funeral cortege will leave Mr. Ross' residence, corner Chestnut and Howard streets, at 11 o'clock.
Susannah married William ROSS on 1 Jul 1813 in Butler County, OH. (William ROSS died about 1835 in IN.)
Susannah next married Boarter GIBSON, son of Garrett GIBSON and Prudence SUMNERS, on 11 Dec 1845 in Delaware County, IN. (Boarter GIBSON was born on 9 Nov 1793 in Surry County, NC and died on 12 Jun 1867 in Delaware County, IN.)
