Samuel ALLEN
Noted events in his life were: • Biography: History and Genealogy Record of the Allens-Begleys-Mays of Kentucky, p. 60. "We find that the Allens came from Connecticut to Virginia, and after the Revolution many went to North Carolina and from there to Kentucky and Tennessee. George Allen and two other Allens, it has been told, came to Kentucky about 1793, and it was believed these three were brothers." p. 8. • Military Service: Rev War, 1780. Samuel ALLEN enlisted in the Revolutionary forces, Sept 11, 1780, with Archibald PRATER. Sarah PRATER was a sister of Archibald. Samuel ALLEN signed an oath of allegiance to the United States in Henry Co., VA. on the third Monday of January, 1777. A Samuel ALLEN was taken prisoner during the Rev. War by the British 19 Oct 1781. Samuel may have been the brother of John ALLEN. During the period of 1782-87 the name of Samuel ALLEN was on the tax lists of Henry Co. VA. In 1795 Samuel ALLEN was one of the signers of a petition asking that Tazewell County be formed from part of Russell County.
