Capt. John LIGHTFOOT II
Noted events in his life were: • School, 1641-1643, London, England. Attended both Lincoln College and Gray's Inn Law School near London, England (1641-43) • Occupation: Ship's Captain. He is identified as a Captain of the Royal Navy operating in the waters of Virginia in 1666 when he lost his ship, and is also beleived to have commanded the Covertine of London which returned from a voyage to Virginia in 1670. He apparently migrated with his family (sons John III and Philip) to America shortly thereafter, but his residence there is uncertain. On 10 June, 1670 he was appointed the Auditor General of Virginia to replace Thomas Stegge who had died in office. • Legal: master of ship "Nightingale," 1657, VA. No. 94. 28 April 1657. On the Nightingale, in Yarmouth Roads. Captain J. Lightfoot to the Admiralty Committee. Received an order from Captain Sparling to convoy a ship of Bristol which came from Virginia to Rotterdam, to the Brill. Arrived there on April 26. • Legal: Port Books, 1668-1669, VA. Most tobacco off ships lying in the Downs prior to going up to London John married Elizabeth (?) TAILOR about 1648. (Elizabeth (?) TAILOR died before 1686.) |
