Thomas JONES Esq.
Noted events in his life were: • Will, 1625. Thomas Jones' will dated 13 April 1625 and proved 10 October 1625 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (117) mentions "cousins" (i.e. nephews) Sir Richard Yonge and John Lightfoot. His memorial at the Church of St. Mary, Lewisham, Kent was provided by L.H. Jones of Louisville, KY, in a back issue of the William and Mary Quarterly. He took the same from a book entitled "The Monumental Inscriptions of St. Mary, Lewisham." It mentions that Thomas Jones, Esq. Was married to Priscilla Aske (d. Nov 1625), daughter of Robert Aske, Esq., "lineally descended of the ancient and worthy familie of the Askes of Aughton, in the County of York." Both were buried there because they wished to be interred near the bodies of Robert Aske "and others of that blood and family." The monument mentions their children: Thomas, Francis, William and Martha (son Richard is left out.) It then states, "Sir Richard Yonge, Knight and Bart; William Boswell, Thomas Jones, and John Lightfoot, Esq. have erected this monument that the just might be had in everlasting remembrance." Thomas married Priscilla ASKE, daughter of Robert ASKE Esq. and Unknown. (Priscilla ASKE was christened on 8 Oct 1581 in St. Vedast Foster Lane and St. Michael le Querne, London, ENGLAND and died in Nov 1625.) |
