The fourth son of John Lightfoot, William, appears to have followed in his father's footsteps graduating from Gray's Inn in 1653 and pursuing a career as a barrister in England where he and his brother Robert secured and extended the family fortune. He is buried alongside his wife who preceded him in the Guildhall Chapel of London.

• School: Gray's Inn, 1653, London, England. William Lightfoot, son of John and Elizabeth Lightfoot, entered Gray's Inn, October 24, 1653. He probably held some place in the Lord Mayor of London's office, as he authenticates certain witnesses to a deed recorded in York county, Va., in 1680.

Midd. gent, I give my body to be buried on the northside of my late dear wife's gravestone in the Guildhall Chapel in London. I leave 3 sons and 1 daughter: William, John, Robert and Elizabeth "all dutiful and obedient children". To my dau. Eliz. L1,000. To my son Robert all my right & title in my houses in Basinghall St., London. To my son William I give all my right in the Manor of Bidston in co. Chester, which I hold in trust for myself and the executors of John Sayer Esq., deceased. To my brothers & sisters, & to my brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law a ring each. To the poor of St. Michaels Bassishaw, St. John at Hackney and Tuddington 40s each. I make my son William Lightfoot executor. Proved at London 23 January 1699.
