DEATH OF ST. CLAIR PAQUETTE
St. Clair Paquette, whose younger years were spent here, died suddenly at his home at Tomah, on Saturday Evening, Sept. 17th, of heart failure, at the age of 59 years and 20 days.
Mr. Paquette had been in the service of the St. Paul road for more than 30 years, of later years as a conductor. On coming home from his run, he went to the barn to see to his stock. Not returning in due season, Mrs. Paquette went to the barn and found him lying dead, having been suddenly stricken with heart failure.
He was the son of the late Moses and Madeline Paquette, who were among the early settlers in this valley, and he lived here until he entered the employ of the St. Paul road. He was always held in favorable regard by all who knew him here.
The following obituary is from the Tomah Journal:
"Mr. St. Claire Paquette died suddenly at his home Saturday evening Sept. 17th, at the age of 59. Death resulted from heart failure.
Mr. Paquette was born near Portage, Wis., Aug. 29th, 1862. Before coming to Tomah he made his home at La Crosse. He was an employee of the Milwaukee Railroad Company for more than 30 years. For more than 10 years he ahs been yardmasters of the Tomah yards. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and seven children: Mrs. Vincent Hardy, of Rosy, Minn., Russell, Myron, Madeline, Kathryn, Margaret and Marjory, all of Tomah; two sisters, Mrs. Nathaniel Barnes, of Ft. Defiance, Arizona and Mrs. Kathryn Argyle of Stevens Point, Wis.; and three brothers, Peter Paquette of Fr. Defiance, Arizona, Moses Paquette, Black River Falls, and George Brisbois, of Portage, Wis.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 9:00 o'clock from St. Mary's church, Father Wurst, officiating. The pall bearers were conductors on the C. M. and St. P. Railway.
The out-of-town people who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brisbois, Portage; Mr. and Mrs. Moses Paquette, Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Abe Paquette, of Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McDonough, White Lake; Mrs. Mrs. Geo. Burdick, Park Falls; Mrs. Grover Vaughan, Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. and Mrs. Vincent Hardy, Rosy, Minn.; Mr. John Johnson and daughter Pearl, of La Crosse."
