The first Lupien to live in Wisconsin was Theodore Lupien dit Bore. He was born March 17, 1781 in Louiseville, Maskinonge, Quebec and was the son of Antoine Lupien and Marie Madeleine Brule. His parents had a family of 16 children, 9 of whom lived to adulthood, married, and had children. Theodore was their 8th child and the great-grandson of Nicolas Baron dit Lupien. Sometime in the very early 1800s, Theodore immigrated to Prairie du Chien in what was then a part of the Indiana (later Michigan) Territory. Theodore likely followed the route of early French fur traders traveling from Quebec through the Great Lakes area, and what is today Wisconsin, to reach Prairie du Chien, the Mississippi River, and beyond. Theodore married Angelique GHIAR, daughter of Basil GHIAR and Ma-Koch-I-Koue, ca 1811. Theodore next married Therese Josephine CRELY, daughter of Joseph CRELIE and Francoise PELLETIER dit ANTAYA, on 16 May 1817 in Crawford County, WI. (Therese Josephine CRELY was born on 4 Dec 1798 in St. Louis, MO and died on 16 Mar 1866 in Racine County, WI.) |
