• Occupation: President of Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Fergus Falls, 1915-1927, Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, MN. p148 The examples of Fergus and Pelican Rapids indicate the chaos that confronted both the banks and their depositors. In late November 1927 the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Fergus Falls did not open its doors for business. Not since 1897 when the Citizens National Bank folded had the city experienced the closing of a bank. When the Farmers and Merchants State Back organized in 1915, it became the city's fifth bank, joining the First National Bank (1872), the Fergus Falls National Bank (1882), the First State Bank (1902), and the Scandia (later the American) State Bank (1902). Ole C. Boyum, the bank's president, and Charles L. Alexander, the chairman of the board, struggled during 1927 to keep their bank open, using "every effort to make collections, but without sufficient success."
