BOOK - HISTORY OF FILLMORE COUNTY, MN., VOLS. 1 & 2, PUBLISHED IN 1912. Nels John L. Olness was born in Arendahl township in 1883, son of Lars 0. and Margrethe Nelson (Hyldesgard) Olness. He attended the district school near home and completed his education with a course in the Jewell Lutheran College, Jewell, Iowa, in 1904. After graduating from this institution, he returned to his father's farm, which he operates at the present time, carrying on general farming, raising pure-bred cattle and hogs, and owning eight horses for general farm and driving purposes. As secretary of the local creamery, in which he is a heavy stockholder, he has given universal satisfaction for several years. He is also a stockholder in the elevator. On June 12, 1907, Mr. Olness married Bertha Hermanson, and they are the parents of two sons, Manvel Luther and Joseph Martin. The family worships at the Lutheran church.
