Another pioneer of Fillmore County has gone to his final rest. Nels O. Olness died at his home on North Prairie, Friday, December 1, 1916, after an illness covering a period of several months. The funeral was held on Tuesday of this week, from the home and the Arendahl Hauges church, Rev. P. Ljostveit, officiating. Ole E. Boyum, a life long friend and neighbor, also spoke a few words in which he paid high tribute to the departed. The spacious church filled with a large concourse of friends and relatives.
The deceased was born in Sogndal, Norway, on the 16th day of July, 1844. In the year 1864, he left his native country for the land of plenty - America. He first settled in Wisconsin where he remained for six years, after which he came to Fillmore county and settled down on North Prairie, where he has since resided. One year after coming here he was married to Solvei O. Boyum. This union was blessed with seven children of whom two have preceeded their father in death. Mrs. Olness died fifteen years ago.
Mr. Olness is survived by five children: Ole, Anna and Bertha, at home, Albert, of this place and Martin, who resides at Mt. Vernon, S.D. Two brothers, Lars of Peterson and Ole of Pilot Mound, and one sister, Mrs. Martha Mundahl, of Stanley, Wis., also survive.
Nels married Solvei Olsdatter BØYUM, daughter of Ola Erikson BØYUM and Anna Larsdatter KRINGLA, on 27 May 1871 in Fillmore County, MN.1 (Solvei Olsdatter BØYUM was born on 9 Feb 1847 in Balestrand, Sogn Og Fjordane, Norway 5 6, baptized on 28 Feb 1847 in Fjærland, Balestrand, Sogn Og Fjordane, Norway 6 and died on 27 Jul 1901 in Fillmore County, MN.)
