Miss Sophia Thompson, pioneer resident of Hettinger, N. D., and former resident of Choice, died at 6:30 a. m. Jan 16 at Hedmond, Ore., from a heart attack following influenza. She was ill only then days. She was 42 years old at the time of her death. Miss Thompson was a resident of Adams county almost continuously from 1908 until last year when she went to make her future home in the West. Funeral services were conducted at the Community church at Redmond at 2 p.m. Sunday. Special hymns were sung by the church quartet. Burial was in the Redmond cemetery. Odean Thompson of Hettinger attended the funeral. Memorial services were conducted at the Hettinger Lutheran church Sunday, the Rev. E. Leland Rude in an eulogy paid tribute to Miss Thompson as a home loving, reserved, patient and christian character and to her active participation in all church work. Mrs. Theodore Lokken sang a vocal solo, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," the favorite hymn of Miss Thompson. Miss Thompson was born July 26, 1893, at Choice, Minn., the daughter of Swen and Johanna Thompson. She attended the Peterson, Minn., schools and also studied at Jewell college, Iowa, for two years. With her family, she moved ot Adams county in 1905. Her father homesteaded one mile north of Hettinger where they resided until they moved West. Miss Thompson taught music in Hettinger for man years and also service as organist for the Lutheran church, the league and choir and for the T. and T. club. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. John Haughton, Redmond, Ore., and three brothers, Archie, Samuel and Odean Thompson, Hettinger. Her parents are dead, her mother having died in December, 1904, at Peterson, Minn., and her father in January, 1921, at Hettinger. One sister Alice died in infancy.
