Enlisted for three years on 11 Oct 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 16 Nov 1861. Private. Wounded in Battle at Stone's River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862, and sent to Nashville, Tennessee. Wounded and taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia, 20 Sep 1863. Exchanged. Killed at battle of Kenesaw Mountain, Bald Knob, Georgia, 28 Jun 1864. Buried in National Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia; section G, grave 1449. Memorial stone is in East Koshkonong church cemetery, bearing his name and dates "2 Sep 1842-28 Jun 1864".
