• Obituary, 2001, WI. 2 Harold R. Mundahl Age: 85 Posted Aug 28, 2001
Harold R. Mundahl, 85, of Hayward, died Wednesday, July 25 at the Hayward Nursing Home.
Harold Russell was born on February 13, 1916 to Albert and Lena (Grams) Mundahl of Fairfax, Minn. He was married to Bertha Duschner on March 26, 1941. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School, Hamline University (B.S. 1939), and Marquette Medical School (M.D. 1945). He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1946-48. Harold was a staff physician at St. Luke's, St. Joseph's, and Ramsey Hospitals in St. Paul, Minn. He owned and operated his own family practice in St. Paul for 38 years before retiring from his practice in 1984. After retirement from his medical practice, he was employed by Miles Laboratories (now Bayer Corporation). After his second retirement at the age of 76, Harold devoted his time to the care of his wife, Bertha, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Harold and Bertha moved from St. Paul, Minn. to Hayward in September of 1996.
Harold's colleagues and former patients will remember "Doc" as an uncanny diagnostician who would leave no stone unturned to get to the root of the problem. Frequently a diagnosis he had "sensed" was later confirmed by the available tests or by the specialists he consulted with. His family will remember his steadfast love and rock solid support. On holidays or in times of trouble, friends and acquaintances often became a part of his family. Family and friends will remember his quick wit and uninhibited sense of humor. All who knew him were humbled by his cheerfulness and good humor in the face of the disabilities and diseases he endured during his last years. At five foot, five inches tall, he possessed the heart of a lion and the ferocity, determination, and stamina of a bulldog. Those who knew him best will forever remember him for what he was: a true "Little Big Man."
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha.
He is survived by his son, John Mundahl; his daughter, Mary Mundahl-New; and his grandchildren, Cara, Lindi, and Tyler New.
A memorial service in honor of the life of Harold Russell Mundahl will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Seeley. Refreshments will be served after the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Harold's name.
