IOWA FALLS-Elsie Ora Nehring, 83, died on Thursday, October 11, 2007, while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, from 1-3:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Owasa. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 15, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Owasa, with interment at the Berlin Jackson Township Cemetery following. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie was born on December 26, 1923, to O.C. and Ella (Rierson) Reed at their farm home north of Radcliffe. She attended country school near her home and later the Radcliffe High School where she played basketball and sang in the choir. She was united in marriage on December 4, 1939, to Donald E. Nehring at Liberty, Missouri. They made their home in Owasa and raised seven children.

She was a devoted wife and mother and held jobs seasonally with the Turkey Plant in Ellsworth, and sorted corn in Eldora. After Donald passed away in 1985 she worked for the Nutrition Site in Iowa Falls at the Catholic Church as a cook's assistant. She was proud to attain her GED at age 65 in 1989 and then began working at the DHS office in Eldora, a job she enjoyed very much.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Owasa where she was active in United Methodist Women. In 2003 ill health placed her in the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center where she was a resident until her death.
Surviving are her children, Dick (Mary) Nehring of Alden, Charlene (Sam) Martin of Sun City, Arizona, Harold Nehring of Big Spring, Texas, Angela (Jim) Pippin of Spanaway, Washington, Debra (Adam) Terry of Owasa, Ella (Greg) Wilson of Gillette, Wyoming and Betty Jo (Rick) Reynolds of Casper, Wyoming; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ruby Abramson of Prairie Farm, Wisconsin and Laureen Spitler of Webster City; a brother-in-law, Dale (Erlene) Nehring of Oakhurst, California; sister-in-law, Bessie Nehring of Owasa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; a grandson, Donald Lee Nehring; brother, Russell Reed; and sisters, Marjorie Weiss and Hazel Gelhaus.

Elsie married Donald E. NEHRING on 4 Dec 1939 in Clay County, Missouri, USA. (Donald E. NEHRING was born on 23 Jul 1917 in Iowa, USA and died in Apr 1985 ¹.)
