• Obituary: Pantagraph, Bloomington, 2008, Illinois, USA. April 19, 2008 PONTIAC - Catherine Irene Swager, 97, formerly of 304 S. Main St., Pontiac, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday (April 17, 2008) at Livingston Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Feb. 27, 2006.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the Rev. Clarence Bangs of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and her nephew, the Father Eugene Finnell, officiating. Burial will follow in South Side Cemetery in the family plot next to her husband and two daughters. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, for visitation and meet with Catherine's family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to her church, the Pontiac Public Library or the Livingston County Humane Society.
Catherine was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Pontiac, daughter of John Henry and Maud Davenport Quinn. She was married to Lloyd L. Swager on Jan. 25, 1927, in Pontiac. They shared almost 57 wonderful years of married life together before he preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1983.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pontiac. Catherine bowled for many years in the women's bowling leagues. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose Lodge.-;
She attended Central Grade School and Pontiac Township High School. During World War II, she worked as a die-cutter at National Wide Glove Co. Later she worked for many years in the district egg candling department of A&P Co., for Motorola Corp. and for Cargill's Seed Corn, all in the Pontiac area.
Surviving are her son, Bennie (Edith) Swager, Flanagan; and five grandchildren, Karl (Nancy) Swager, Cumming, Ga.; Catherine Hadden, Bloomington; Lloyd (Sandra) Swager, Racine, Wis.; Kyle Swager, Bloomington; and Bryan (Emily) Swager, Sheridan, Ind. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Nicholaus (Jayme) Hadden, David Hadden and Michael (Nicole Foutch) Hadden; Westin, Mason and Geneva Swager; and Michelle Swager and Troy Swager; two great-great-grandsons, Caleb Michael Hadden and Gavin Alexander Hadden; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Benjamin (Shonda) Baty, and Gretchin and Gunther Hutchison; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Madison and Dakota Baty; six foster great-grandchildren; and 17 foster great-great-grandchildren. Catherine is also survived by her sister Dorothy's seven children.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Jean, in infancy, and Myradean; three sisters, Dorothy, Helen and Virginia; and a brother who was stillborn.
The family wishes to thank her physician of many years, Dr. Larry Stalter, and the staff at Livingston Manor for the affectionate and loving, concerned care they provided during her stay there.
