• Obituary: News-Gazette, Champaign-Urbana, 2006, Illinois, USA. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 GIBSON CITY - Eugene W. Apland, 90, of Gibson City, formerly of Paxton, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday (Feb. 27, 2006) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home, 303 N. Church St., Gibson City. The Rev. Scott Henley will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Apland was born May 10, 1915, in Elliott, a son of Martin and Mabel Ryerson Apland. He married Ruth Knoth on Feb. 11, 1950, in Milwaukee. She survives.
Survivors also include two sons, James Apland of Gibson City and Jon Apland of Paxton; two daughters, Patricia Freeman of Urbana and Sally Ruggles of Champaign; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Mr. Apland was a farmer. He was a member of Gibson City Lions Club, secretary of Paxton School Board for nine years and vice president of Ford County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Telecare Board of Directors in Gibson City and was one of the first tenants of First Farm Progress Show in Armstrong.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Gibson City; or Evangelical Covenant Church, Paxton.
