Iver Olson Nordgaard was born in 1810 in Stod parish, Nor Trondelag county, Norway, son of Ole Olson Brassedplads and his wife Anne Iversdatter Utgaard. On 4 February 1838 he married Marsta (Martha) Staalsdatter Nordgaard. She was born in Stod in 1815, the daughter of Staal Olson Nordgaard and his wife, Hellen Olsdatter Kaelboplads.

Iver and Marsta had seven children, all born in Norway: Olava Serina, born 13 March 1838, married Isaac Storkerson Udgaard; Henrik Mathis Iverson, born 27 September 1839; Staal and his twin sister, Andrianne, born 30 December 1842; Oliane, born 18 August 1848; Ole Rambech born 22 January 1854; and Jensine Marianna born 22 January 1858.

Iver sold his share of the Nordgaard farm to his youngest brother, Andreas, and in 1866 the entire family, including Isaac and Olava Udgaard, emigrated to America. They settled in Norway Township near Choice. Isaac and Olava Udgaard had a daughter, Mina, who married Christopher Johnson. Hendrik M., who used Iverson as a family name, married Sigrid Olsdatter Ferden, farmed in the area for several years, had nine children and then they moved to Clay County, Minnesota. Staal Nordgaard married Johanna Ingelson and had five children - Mrs. Oscar (Olga Maria) Peterson, Mrs. Gerhard (Ida Malinda) Eiken, Albert (m. Sylvia Hauge) Nordgaard, Leonard Nordgaard and Lawrence Irwin Nordgaard. Andrianna Norgaard married Andrew Hatling and she had seven children Martin (m. Gena Gilbertson) Hatling, Petra Julia Hatling, Andrew Hatling, Marriana Hatling, Andrew Hatling, Mrs. Mandius (Olga Anna) Johnson, and Stella Johanna Hatling. Olianne Nordgaard married Peter Quam/Kvam and had six children - Mrs. August (Inga Mathile) Hestness, Mrs. Bert (Jensine Oline) Harkness, Mrs. Olaf (Nora/Josephine Benora) Hanson, Mrs. Theodore (Olga) Larson, and two who died young - Peter Oscar Quam and Alma Quam. Ole Rambech Nordgaard did not marry. Jensine Marianna married Peter Paulson - (see their entry).

Iver died 7 June 1896, and Martha died 3 January 1897. Most of the family is buried at the Highland Prairie Church. The farm remains in the family, Clifford and lone (Eiken) Larson being the current owners. Submitted by: Delone Dahl Carpenter
