Loving mother and wife, Thora Lou (Eiken) Doblar, 84, of La Crescent died June 27, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Thora Lou was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Spring Grove, the youngest child of the late Henry and Clarinda (Jensen) Eiken.
She attended public schools in the Spring Grove area, then earned a teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Following graduation, Thora Lou taught school for a short time.
In 1950, she married Ralph Doblar of Money Creek. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage last October along with their four children.
In the late 1960s, Thora opened her own daycare center on the family farm in Money Creek. She continued to care for children for almost 30 years. She was the subject of a feature article in the local newspaper because of her extraordinary ability to care for and nurture so many fortunate children over the years.
Thora Lou was a member of the Money Creek United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Doblar, 89, of La Crescent; four children, Mary Jane Dankowski of Carlsbad, Calif., Sue (Greg) McDonald of Duluth, Scott Doblar of Winona, and Lisa Doblar of Minneapolis; one sister, Helen Olson; and grandchildren, Christopher Dankowski of Oceanside, Calif., Brooke Dankowski of San Diego, Calif., Bryan McDonald of Chattanooga, Tenn., Megan McDonald of Portland, Ore., and Benjamin Doblar of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one grandson.
A memorial service was July 2 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston with the Rev. Jim Strom officiating. Burial was in the Money Creek Cemetery.
