• Immigration: from Canada, 1856, America. for two years he resided in Kansas, and, as he had prevoiusly learned the blacksmith's trade, he found plenty of employment

• Migration: from Kansas, 1858, California, USA. In 1858 Mr. Bruce went to California by the long overland route and spent about a twelvemonth on that coast.

• Migration: from California, 1861, Illinois, USA. In the fall of 1861 he returned by stage through Arizona and Texas, and then came to Livinston county.
