Roy Joneson
Visitation and video tribute for Roy J. Joneson, 86, of Coal City, will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. Thursday until noon at the Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Coal City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Thomas Logsdon will officiate.

Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent and Jeremy Taylor, Mark Pavlis, Tom Crawford, Gary and Roger Reader. Honorary pallbearers will be Lane and Kyle Cowherd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road, Coal City, IL 60416; Coal City Fireman's Association, 35 S. DeWitt Place, Coal City, IL 60416; or Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431. He died Saturday (May 31, 2008) in Morris.

Mr. Joneson was a carpenter in Bettendorf, Iowa, until his retirement. Before that he was a union pipefitter at the Morris Paper Mill. He was born May 18, 1922, in Kendall County, the son of Roy A. and Vera Schwichtenberg-Joneson. His wife, the former Ramona Beard, whom he married May 5, 1946, at Coal City United Methodist Church, is deceased. He was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a member of the Morris Moose Lodge, former member of the Coal City Lions Club and volunteer fireman with Coal City. He enjoyed old cars and woodworking.

Surviving are his children, Roberta (Ronald) Taylor of Carbon Hill, James Joneson of Poinicana, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emmett (Bonnie) Joneson of Morris, Argle (Cindy) Joneson of Chandler, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Thelma Wickman of Carbon Hill; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Tim McCormick of Gulf Port, Fla., and Ardella Hilt of Morris.

Age 86 of Coal City, passed away Saturday May 31, 2008 at Walnut Grove in Morris.


Born May 18, 1922 in Kendall County, Roy was a son of the late Roy A. and Vera Schwichtenberg-Joneson. On May 05, 1946 Roy married Ramona Beard in the Coal City United Methodist Church, and together they lived in Coal City, as well as spent a number of years in Bettendorf, Iowa prior to retirement. Roy worked at the Morris Paper Mill, prior to becoming employed as a Union Pipefitter. It was then in the 1970's Roy and Ramona moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, where he worked as a Carpenter until his retirement and return to Coal City in the late 70's. Roy was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church for over 50 years, was a member of the Morris Moose Lodge and former member of the Coal City Lions Club and volunteer fireman with Coal City. In his free time, Roy enjoyed his old cars and woodworking. Roy was also always known to be there giving a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Survivors include two children: Roberta (Ronald) Taylor of Carbon Hill and James Joneson of Poinicana, Florida; three grandchildren: Brent (Jennifer) Taylor of Minooka, Jeremy Taylor of Joliet and Nicole (Joshua) Caceras of Poinicana, Florida; two great grandchildren: Brielle Taylor and Areyanna Caceras; two brothers Emmett (Bonnie) Joneson of Morris and Argle (Cindy) Joneson of Chandler, Indiana; one sister-in-law Thelma Wickman of Carbon Hill and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as a special friends Tim McCormick of Gulf Port, Florida and Ardella Hilt of Morris.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one son Glenn; his wife Ramona, daughter-in-law Priscilla Joneson; two brothers: Kenneth and Mervin Joneson and two sisters: Charlotte Reader and Mardell Erzinger.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday June 04, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM and Thursday June 5th from 11:00AM until 12:00 Noon at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will then follow in the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 McArdle Road in Coal City at 12:30PM with Dr. Thomas Logsdon officiating.

Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and pallbearers will be: Brent Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Mark Pavlis, Tom Crawford, Gary Reader and Roger Reader and Honorary pallbearers will be: Lane Cowherd and Kyle Cowherd.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Roy's memory to Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road, Coal City, Illinois 60416, Coal City Fireman's Association, 35 S.
