MARLENE MYRTLE (HAUGEN) WIDMARK, age 75 of Grand Rapids, MN, died December 11, 2011 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. Marlene was born on July 12, 1936 to Ernest and Ruth Haugen in Chicago, IL. Marlene moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1949 where she attended Washburn High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. Marlene was united in marriage to Merrill Widmark on December 17, 1955. They relocated in Hibbing, MN, where she owned and operated Butterfly Cottage and Adams House Bed & Breakfast. She was active in many organizations including Sons of Norway, Eastern Star, and delegate to MN Synod LCA, and numerous church and fiber guilds. They retired to Lake Wabana, Grand Rapids area in 1999. She was accomplished in many styles of handwork, design, and sewing. She had many interests including traveling, gardening, antiques, and her Scandinavian and German heritage. She is survived by her husband, Merrill; sons Scott and Stuart; daughters Carolyn (Mel) Maturi and Ellen (Mike Murphy); 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jan (Terry Koladish) and Paul (Brenda) Haugen; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Marlene will be greatly missed by family and friends Visitation with the family will be Monday, December 19th from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
