Marian L. Scott Taplin
PONTIAC -- Marian L. Scott Taplin, 93, of rural Pontiac, died at 10:43 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2005) at her home following an extended illness.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, rural Pontiac.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Livingston County Health Department.
Marian was born near Mitchell, S.D., on Jan. 15, 1912, the daughter of the late Lewis and Clara (Emerson) Scott. She was a 1929 graduate of Mt. Vernon, S.D., High School and attended Normal Teachers Training in South Dakota. Prior to her marriage, she taught for six years in country schools in South Dakota. On Dec. 23, 1936, she married Clyde W. Taplin in Mitchell, S.D. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1994.
Surviving are three sons, Calvin (Peggy) Taplin, rural Pontiac; Marvin Taplin, Gibson City; and Irvin (Harriet) Taplin, Chetek, Wis.; two daughters, Rose and Ruth Taplin, missionaries who came home to care for their mother; eight grandchildren, Scott (Cheryl) Taplin, Barry (Kathleen) Taplin, Sonya and Brad Hepler, Tania Taplin, Nerissa (Daryl) Dwyer, Quinn (Kendra) Taplin, and Kyle (Larry) Fisk; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace (Gladys) Scott, Mitchell, S.D.; and a sister, Lila Walker, Pierson, Fla.
Marian also was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a son.
Marian and Clyde moved from South Dakota to a farm near Rowe in April of 1941. She was a nondenominational Christian.
