• Biography: school report by great grandchild, Abt 1960. Written by a great-grandchild of Johanna Gorder Moran in the mid 1960s for a school report:

"Johanna Caroline came to America from Norway at the age of eleven. Her father Christopher came first and a year later sent his family, all except Ole, who was the oldest. Ole came on a steamship a year later, 1868.
Marie Gorder and the children came on a sailship. There was an epidemic of measles on the ship which killed the youngest Gorder child. She was buried at Quebec, Canada since they were close to shore. Later another also died of measles. From Canada the family came to Rushford Minnesota.
While in Norway, Johanna and her brother Tom would pick up lead bullets from the guns of the Norwegian soldiers. They lived near a field where the soldiers had target practice. Sometimes the lead would still be hot when the picked it up. They sold the lead back to the soldiers. They picked lillies of the valley which they sold, too. They saved all their pennies so they could come to America. When they arrived in this country, they began working for other people. Johanna made twenty-five cents a week, but then calico only cost three cents a yard.
In Norway, my great, great uncle Ole Christopher Gorder received a seal from the King. He saved a group of soldiers from being attacked by a vicious stallion. He was injured in doing so."

Christopher had a relationship with Marthe Jacobsdotter MIDTOG. (Marthe Jacobsdotter MIDTOG was born ca 1820 in <Norway>.)

Christopher next married Maria Johansdtr SUNDBY on 29 Dec 1850 in Ullensaker, Akershus, Norway.1 (Maria Johansdtr SUNDBY was born on 9 Jan 1830 in Ullensaker, Akershus, Norway and died on 27 Apr 1906 in Fillmore County, Minnesota, USA 2.)
