LANESBORO -- The funeral for Fernanda V. "Fern" Sveen, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Whalan Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sveen, a longtime resident of the Lanesboro area, died Tuesday (Aug. 28, 2007) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Fernanda Viola Skalet was born May 10, 1915, in Amherst Township, Fillmore County. She married Irvin A. Sveen on June 12, 1934, at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro; Mr. Sveen died May 9, 1983. She then married Eugene Means in November 1991; he died in February 1992. She lived in Amherst Township for four years, then in North Prairie, rural Lanesboro, for 15 years. After that she resided in rural Whalan until 1982, when she moved to Lanesboro. She was a member of the Whalan Lutheran Church, WELCA, and Sons of Norway.

Survivors include three sons, Glen, Duane (Joan) and Earl, all of Lanesboro; a daughter, Linda (Doug) Johnson of Lanesboro; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Adeline) Skalet of Peterson; and a sister, Arlene (Irven) Holtegaard of Lanesboro. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister and a daughter-in-law.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Whalan Lutheran Church.

Fernanda married Irven Alvin SVEEN, son of Iver Tostensen SVEEN and Anne ANDERSON, on 12 Jun 1934 in Fillmore County, MN.¹ (Irven Alvin SVEEN was born on 7 Dec 1911 in Fillmore County, MN ³ and died on 9 May 1983 in WI ⁴.)
