• Reference: Rushford Settlers, 1848, Fillmore County, MN. Even was born in Flatdal, Telemarken, Norway in 1822. His parents died in an epidemic that passed over the district when Even was four years of age. As a young lad, Even apprenticed in a blacksmith shop but after arriving in America in 1848, he worked as a lumberjack in the pineries and was also employed as a rafter on Wisconsin streams during the summer.
In 1855, Even married the daughter of Aslak Anderson, the first homesteader in Arendahl Township, after which he sold his claim to S.T. Gjernes, and in turn purchased the Aslak Anderson farm in company with his brother-in-law, Peter Haslerud (the Anderson farm was the one now owned by Ross Boyum [1986]).

• Reference: History of Fillmore County, 1882, Fillmore County, MN. page 350 EVEN OLSON REISHUS, one of the pioneers of this county and the second settler in Rushford is a native of Norway, born in April 1822. He was reared to agricultural pursuits, and also learned the blacksmith trade, coming to America in 1848. After living in Dane county, Wisconsin, a few years, he settled in Rushford in 1854 and remained two years. While there he married Miss Anna Anderson. They came to this township in 1856 and purchased land but lived with Mrs. Olsons father, who was the first settler in the place. Mr. Olson was one of the first Supervisors and helped organize the town. He has a family of eleven children.

EVEN REISHUS IS DEAD An Old Fillmore County Settler goes to his Last Rest.
WAS 80 YEARS OLD
And had been a Resident of Fillmore County Since 1854. The Funeral Services were Held Yesterday.
Even Olsen Reishus died at his home in this city on Saturday, May 10th, after an illness covering a period of two years.
Mr. Reishus was born in Fladahl, Telemarken, Norway, April 1, 1822, and emigrated to this country in 1848. He settled in Dane county, Wisconsin, where he made his home until the spring of 1853, when he came west to Rushford, and settled in Arendahl township where he lived up to two week's ago when he moved to Rushford. He was married to Miss Anna Anderson Teigen, July 12, 1854, and together they withstood the hardships of early pioneer life and being among the earliest settlers, have always been identified with the early growth and development of this part of Fillmore county.
Mr. Reishus was the father of twelve children, ten of whom survive him as follows:
Mrs. Mary Wangsness, Cottonwood, Minn., Edward E. Reishus, Coleman, S. D., Mrs. Carl Johnson, Portal, N. D.; Mrs. A. R. Tungland, O.E. Reishus and Mrs. A. T. Kjos of Rushford, John Emma, Adeline and Clara Reishus of Arendahl; Aletha and Carl having passed away some years ago.
The funeral was held yesterday from the house, Rev. Arveson and Rev. Jonstad officiating , and afterwards from the Arendahl church, the remains being interred in the North Prairie cemetery.
