Cause of his death was liver cancer. Noted events in his life were: • Obituary, 2011, Cass County, ND. John M. Olson, age 80, resident of rural Brocket, ND, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at his home. John Maurice Olson was born June 8, 1931 near Brocket, the son of Jacob K. and Marie (Lillegren) Olson. He was raised there and attended the Brocket School , graduating in 1949. He then attended NDAC in Fargo , graduating with an Agricultural Engineering degree in 1953. He farmed for a year before joining the U.S. Air Force on May 10, 1954 . He served in Korea and was honorably discharged with the rank of 1 st Lieutenant on May 9, 1956 . He returned to the Brocket area to farm with his father. John married Virginia Falter on December 27, 1958 at Lakota Lutheran Church . They lived near Brocket where they farmed and raised their family together. John was active in farming until 2009. He was a 4-H Leader and active in the Ramsey County Farm Bureau and was a past president. He also was a member of the Royal O. Gray American Legion Post #61 of Brocket, the Lillehoff Township Board, the elevator board, and United Lutheran Church , serving on the church council and was a past president. John enjoyed machinery. He restored a Model A and several Mustangs. He was a great mechanic, but also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He was known for having a great sense of humor. John will be deeply missed by his wife, Virginia Olson of Brocket, ND; 4 children, Jennifer (Greg) Anderson of Forest City, IA, Mike (Sherry) Olson of Fargo, Diana (Tom) Wilberscheid of Fargo, and Maureen (Chuck) Bucholz of Fargo; 7 grandchildren, Gabe, Marisa, and Samantha Wilberscheid, Matt and Tori Olson, Hannah and Hailey Bucholz; 3 brothers, Kenneth (Luella) Olson of Lakota, Gerald (Alice) Olson of Littleton, CO, and Norris (Jean) Olson of Grand Forks; 2 sisters, Delores (Carl) Sandager of Lakota and Judith (Floyd) Anderson of Northwood; a brother-in-law, Joey Schmidt of LaMoure, ND; a sister-in-law, Jean Falter of Grand Rapids, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Russel Falter; a sister-in-law, Louise Schmidt; and a nephew, Jeff Olson who died in Operation Desert Storm. The Funeral Service will be held at United Lutheran Church , Brocket, ND, on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Peter Horn. The organist will be Margaret Swanson and special music will be sung by Kirsten and Naomi Fagerlund. Interment will be in the Hoff Cemetery, rural Brocket. The casketbearers will be Terry Olson, Dean Schmidt, Chuck Bucholz, Tom Wilberscheid, Matthew Olson, and Gabe Wilberscheid. Military Honors will be accorded by the Royal O. Gray American Legion Post #61 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, ND, on Tuesday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Lutheran Church, the Alzheimers Association, or a charity of the donor's choice. John married Living |
