Holbrook descended of Randolph Holbrook, of Stafford Co. VA; named as brother of John Holbrook in John's 1733 will; Randolph later to Goochland Co VA where he died, 1777 or 1778 ( depending on which of two entries in the Douglas Registeryou want to think was him) ; sons to Wilkes Co NC late 1770s SHOULD READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS SAID NEXT.

I am the researcher who came up with the will from England of Ralph Holbrook, of Walgherton, Cheshire. In this will he names his children, including daughter Elizabeth Venables and son, William and gives them bequests. Two of the bequests to his children are different: 1) the bequest to son John is his if he comes and claims it within 7 years. This was often done when the person was out of the country. 2) a bequest is given as: " I leave to my Granson Ralph Son of my son Randel the like summ of Twenty pounds ... "
I found in nearby parish registers the marriage of Randol to Ann Stanway in 1716 and the Christening of their son, "Ralf" in 1717.
It is seen why John and Randolph, named sons of Ralph in the 1725 will ( plus other siblings) appeared to be the John and Randolph of Virginia, and I published this information. IT NOW APPEARS TO BE INCORRECT!
WHY? Because later a 1759 will of Ralph Holbrook of Madely, Shropshire ( just south of Cheshire) names his Aunt Elizabeth Venables and Uncle William Holbrook , which shows he is the named grandson of Ralph with the 1725 will! If he is in Shropshire, he can't be here in America.
Since then a burial in 1723 of Randol has been found. This also fits to Ralph's will. Ralph could not give a bequest to his dead son Randol, but could, and did to the grandson, Ralph.

I HEREBY RETRACT MY INFORMATION THAT THIS IS THE FAMILY LINE ANCESTRAL TO THE WILKES CO NC HOLBROOKs. Due to other circumstances and information, I have no doubt that the Wilkes gang DOES descend from the Cheshire Holbrook, but it is NOT THROUGH RALPH WITH THE 1725 WILL! PLEASE AMEND YOUR RECORDS ACCORDINGLY.

Randolph next married Janet Elizabeth PATTERSON about 1730 in Stafford County, VA. (Janet Elizabeth PATTERSON was born in 1708 in Stafford County, VA and died before Dec 1755.)
