Fargo, N. D., Aug. 13 - (United Press) - Urging Northwest farmers to "keep books" on their cows, E. J. Haslerud, extension dairyman of the North Dakota Agricultural College, said today that this would enable them to prevent losses from low production animals.

Edwin J. Haslerud PETERSON, Minn. (Special) -- Funeral services for Edwin J. Haslerud, 75, Fargo, N.D., who died at a Fargo hospital March 7, were held at Frist Lutheran Church, Fargo, March 10, the Rev. Lawrence Halvorson officiating, and at Grace Lutheran Church, Peterson, March 13, Pastor James W. Asp officiated.
Pallbearers were Arthur Halvorson, Elbert Agrimson, Orville and Harvey Boyum, Frank Soffa and Reuben Melom. Burial was in East Grace Cemetery, Peterson.
He was born at Peterson July 8, 1891, to Andrew and Gertrude Haslerud. He grew up on a farm near Peterson and began a public service in agriculture after graduating from the University of Minnesota college of agriculture.
He was extension dairyman in Minnesota; extension agent in Montana and Minot, N.D., and in 1929 became extension dairyman at the University of North Dakota, Fargo. He was assistant county agent leader until he was named director of extension in 1939, a position he held until retiring in 1961.
He married Mabel Boyum June 26, 1922, at St. Paul.
He was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of science at the University of Minnesota and the U.S. Distinguished Service Award at Washington, D.C., in 1961, plus the Northwest Farm Managers Association Pioneer of the Year award for pioneering work in agriculture. The Distinguished Service Award is the highest award conferred by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Survivors are: His wife; one daughter, Lorraine, Fargo; one son, Edwin Jr., Appleton, Wis., and four grandchildren.
Edwin married Mabel BOYUM, daughter of Ole Bjørnson BOYUM and Helene Trulsdtr ESE, on 26 Jun 1922 in Fillmore County, MN.1 (Mabel BOYUM was born on 11 Oct 1895 in MN and died on 22 Jul 1973 in Cass County, ND 2.)
