• Obituary: Tri County Record, Rushford, 1950, Fillmore County, MN. Funeral services were held from the Arendahl Lutheran Church (Peterson) Thursday, March 16th for Erick A. Maland. Rev. C. J. Hanson officiated, Rev. H. N. Bakke, a son-in-law, spoke in Norse, and Rev. Elmo Agrimson, Reeder, North Dakota, spoke for the family.
Mr. Maland, Fremont's oldest resident, was born October 12, 1858 in Columbia County, Wisconsin. In his childhood, he came with his parents to Fillmore County. Later he settled on a farm in Fremont Township, Winona County, where he resided 70 years. Since his youth, he was a member of Arendahl Lutheran Church.
November 27, 1885 he was united in marriage to Anna Matea Sandlie. They had thirteen children, five of whom proceeded him in death, four at an early age, and a daughter Cora in 1920. The Malands celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1936. Mrs. Maland departed this life in 1941. Since then he has lived in his home with his daughter Eunice and sons, Earnest and Glenn.
He is survived by six daughters: Alice, Mrs. Bennett Tingesdahl, Mabel, MN; Ella, Mrs. Jacob Agrimson, Fergus Falls, MN; Inger, Mrs. H. N. Bakke, McCallsburg, Iowa; Eunice at home; Florence, Mrs. Paul Martinson, Robbinsdale, MN; Lillian, Mrs. Kenneth Markegard, Rushford, MN; and two sons, Glenn and Earnest at home. He is also survived by one brother, Lars Maland, Rushford, MN; 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Alfred Agrimson, Benjamin Aarsvold, Henry Paulson, Tom Tollefson, Olaf Thorson and Martin Hermanson.
