Marilyn Jean Fosse, 78
Marilyn Jean Fosse had a special bond with her identical twin, the late Carolyn Ruth Ferracuti. There were the usual comparisons of both women looking so much alike it was hard to tell them apart and the similarity in how they dressed. But family members said it was the way Mrs. Fosse always seemed to know what her twin sister was thinking that constantly amazed them. "It was as though they could read each other's minds," said Mrs. Fosse's husband of 53 years, George. "Half the time they didn't even need to talk. They just knew what was in each other's heads." Mrs. Fosse, 78, of St. Charles, a devoted mother and grandmother, died of emphysema Tuesday, May 25, in Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. Born in Morris, Mrs. Fosse was raised on a grain and livestock farm in Nettle Creek Township in Grundy County. Mrs. Fosse later moved with her family to Ottawa, Ill., where she graduated from Ottawa Township High School. In high school, she was active in student council and cheerleading, as was her twin, who died last year. "They pretty much did the same things together," her husband said. "We have pictures of them back then, and it's really hard to tell them apart." After World War II, Mrs. Fosse began working for the Civil Service at the Great Lakes Naval Station, where she had various office duties. In 1950, she married George Fosse, and the couple lived for five years in Rock Island, Ill., before moving to St. Charles. In the years that followed, Mrs. Fosse devoted herself to raising her four children, a son and three daughters. Family members said her life in many ways paralleled her twin sister's, whose home was in Ottawa. "Her twin, Carolyn, was also the mother of one son and three daughters," Mrs. Fosse's husband said. "They were both stay-at-home moms who really loved what they did." Both Mrs. Fosse and her late twin led very active lives, which included volunteering at their children's schools and for their sports programs. "She was always on the phone with her sister, comparing notes about the kids and seeking advice," her husband said. "The phone would ring and I'd hear her say, `Well what do you know. I was just about to call you.'" Other survivors include two sons, Kevin and Kim; a daughter, Lisa; a sister, Dorothy LeBrun; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles.
