• Obituary, 1990. Leland Boyd Jones, 71, Topeka, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 1990, at his home. He suffered a ruptured aneurysm. He had been ill since 1985.
Mr. Jones was a district representative of Blue Cross and Blue Shield 28 years before he retired in 1983. He previously owned and operated restraurants with his parents in the Industrial District of Kansas City until 1939 when he moved to San Diego to work for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft, helping build B-17s for World War II.
He was born Dec. 5, 1918, near Denison in Jackson County, the son of Chester and Mary Susan "Susie" Patton Jones. He attended elementary schools in Atchison and was graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1936. He received an Associate of Arts degree in 1955 from Washburn University in Topeka.
Mr. Jones was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Topeka 37 years. He also was a member of Topeka Area Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Topeka Genealogical Society, Washburn Walkers, International Center of Topeka and Jackson County Historical Society.
He was married to Carolyn Daly of Cyrus, Minn., May 10, 1942, in Yuma, Ariz. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kristine Erb, Albany, Ga.; a son, Bruce Jones, Bonner Springs; a sister, Doris Harlin, Aurora, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Larkinburg Cemetery east of Holton.
Mr. Jones will lie in state today and Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton where relatives and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. He later will lie in state after 11 a.m. Thursday at the church where relatives and friends will meet from 11 a.m. until noon.
