• Obituary, 2009. Robert Carol Malmin, 82, of Rushford, Minn. passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009.
Robert was the ninth child of fourteen born to Carl and Bertha (Gullickson) Malmin on August 2, 1927, in Peterson, Minn. He attended Peterson Schools. Following school Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was known for being a helpful person who volunteered often at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Robert was always giving of his time and energy. He loved his nieces and nephews, always giving little gifts. One of his favorite gifts to give was a $2 bill. Robert lived in Arizona for several years and came to be known as the Arizona Kid. He moved back to Minnesota to be closer to his beloved family.
Robert married Nina Barber on August 19, 2006. He was a very loving person who will be missed by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his wife Nina; sons: Robert Jr. and Dennis from a previous marriage; sisters: Jeanette Ruschmann, LaVaughn (Regis) Greenwalt Nolan, and Dian (Lew) Fossum; sisters-in-law: Della Malmin, Evaughn Malmin, Elaine Malmin, Betty Malmin, Mavis Malmin, and Janis Malmin; and by two brothers-in-law: Fred Swiggum and Barney Bishop. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Barbara Bishop, and Joyce Swiggum; brothers: Clair, Allen Lincoln, Vern, Milford, Curtis, Lowell and infant Carl Donald; brother in law, Joseph Ruschmann; and sister-in-law, Eva Malmin.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the East Grace Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
