Carl Malmin Died Following A Stroke
Funeral services were conducted in the Peterson Evangelical Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 14) at 2:00 p.m. with preliminary services at the home at 1:30 p.m. for Mr. Carl Malmin, who passed away Saturday evening (August 10, 1946) at 11:00 p.m. The Rev. A. I. Kvamme officiated and burial was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Carl Legwold, B.C. Benson, Arthur Bakken, Magnus Jacobson, Carl Johnson and Emer Johnson.
Mr. Malmin suffered a severe stroke Wednesday evening from which he did not regain consciousness. Three years ago he had a light stroke and since that time had been ailing.
Mr. Malmin was born March 30, 1886, in Sandnes, near Stavanger, Norway, his parents being Kristian and Anna Malmin, who with two sisters and a brother are dead. At the age of 17 years he came to America making his home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thompson on North Prairie. He was a carpenter by trade.
On June 17, 1912, he married Miss Bertha Gullickson in Rushford, the late Rev. O.M. Saevig performing the ceremony. Following the wedding trip to Norway, they returned here and have made their home in and near Peterson since. They have for several years lived one mile north of Peterson.
Mr. and Mrs. Malmin had 14 children, all living but for Karl Donald, who died at the age of two months. Surviving are Mrs. Malmin, Barbara, Jeanette and LaVaughn of Baltimore, Md., Clair of Savage, Allan of Peterson, Lincoln of Temple, Texas, Private Robert of Fort Lewis, Wash., Curtis of Greenough, Mont., Vern, Milford, Joyce, Dian and Lowell, all at home. There are four grandchildren.
Others surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Olina Malmin, Mrs. Bartel (Inga) Askeland and Mrs. Alfred (Alma) Malmin, all living in Norway; one aunt, Mrs. Serena Thompson of Hettinger, N.D. and several nieces and nephews.
Carl married Bertha Marie GULLICKSON, daughter of Andrew GULLICKSON and Amanda TIPPERY. (Bertha Marie GULLICKSON was born on 29 Aug 1891 in MN and died on 31 Aug 1983 in Fillmore County, MN 2.)
