The rest of the family used the name Halseteig but for some reason Nels used the name Hillestad. In America the name Hillestad was abbreviated to Hill. Nils also had two sisters in the US. Anna Nelson m. in Hafslo to Ole W. Nelson. They lived on a farm in Freeborn County, MN. Brita Nelson m. Ole Hanson and lived in Albert Lea, MN. Nils came to America in 1865.

Nils Hill Dies at the Charlie Winjum
Farm in Riceland Saturday Night.
Coroner von Berg was called to the Charlie Winjum home in Riceland township Saturday evening about six o'clock to investigate the sudden death of Nils Hill.
Mr. Hill who has no permanent home called at the Winjum home to get some laundry and asked permission to use a room for the purpose of dressing himself. He was found a short time afterwards lying in the middle of the floor dead.
Coroner von Berg gave heart failure as cause of death.
The funeral was held Monday from the Knatvold furniture store by Rev. Nervig and interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery north of the city.
Nels married Synneva Iversdatter HOLLEKVE, daughter of Iver Tollefsen FIMREITE and Martha Larsdatter FIMEREIDE, on 19 Nov 1868 in Freeborn County, MN.
